POLICIES

Faith Environment Policy - September 2009 ENGLISH

Política para el Ambiente Seguro - September 2009 SPANISH

The Diocese of Las Cruces is happy to announce the new Faith Environment Training for adults. This training fulfills the requirement for the previous Sexual Abuse Prevention Training. The central focus of the training is still to provide safety from physical and sexual abuse for our children, young people and vulnerable populations. But there are a number of differences you will notice.

The first difference is the name of the training. As the name "Faith Environment" proclaims, we as Catholics recognize that our commitment to the safety and sanctity of our churches and schools is a foundational responsibility of our life in Christ. All of us are called to work together as a community of faith to ensure the safety of all, and especially of our most vulnerable members. The presentation has been modified to include what we can do now to create a safer environment for all God's people.

A second difference you will see is that for the first time we are able to train parishioners and staff from our own parishes and Catholic schools to present the program. Persons with a documented background and knowledge about abuse issues can be recommended to the diocese by their pastors to receive training to give the workshop.

We are hoping to train presenters for all areas of the diocese except Doña Ana County. The reason for this is that any parish or school in Doña Ana County can easily schedule a free presentation with our current excellent presenters from the La Piñon agency.
